I’m a School Supply “Junkie!”

Hi, my name is Felicia and I am addicted to school/office supplies. It all began when I was a kid. I was definitely an under cover nerd and I LOVED school. Most importantly, I LOVED shopping for school supplies…perhaps even more than clothes!

My parents were divorced, so my siblings and I would either go with our mom or with our dad depending on who had the available time. There were advantages with both. When we went with Mom, we always had our “supply list,” from school, so we always had just what we needed. When we went shopping with my dad, he was so clueless that WE, ok, I, took advantage of him and put EVERYTHING into the cart! I mean, I was sure to pick out all of my favorites, you know. I’m an 80’s kid, so I had my Lisa Frank trapper keeper, various dividers and stickers, only CRAYOLA crayons and colored pencils…this was important, because mom would sometimes pick up RoseArt. Oh, and mechanical pencils instead of the plain #2’s. Oh yeah! I was the youngster buying highlighters and calendars in elementary school. I mean, I had a life to plan and organize PEOPLE!

Here I am years later, and things haven’t changed much. So, you can only imagine the amount of excitement that I have around this time of the year! It’s time for the students to go back to school and I STILL allow myself an allowance! However, this time I went a little overboard and I would like to “share,” with other someone else that loves this stuff or needs it as much I do!

Blogging…turn it down for what?

As I mentioned at the beginning of my last blog post, I am really excited about my blog journey! I’ve chosen to blog for a number of reasons.

1. I began a fitness journey back in February of this year (I’ll insert my FIRST video at the bottom of this post…videos have become a lot better since, LOL!). I started off by vlogging and uploading to YouTube. I had a lot of fun with that, but there were often times, that I wanted to add more details. For instance, when it comes to fitness, it’s NEVER only about losing the weight and/or toning up. There are always other factors involved and that is sometimes hard to explain via videography alone.

(Cycling is one of my favorite things to do while not being able to run; we have great scenery here in FL too!)

2. The second reason I decided to blog, sort of correlates to the first. If only working out and eating healthy were my full time jobs, right? Well, unfortunately they’re not. There are so many other aspects of my life as there are with you and other readers/viewers. I wanted my journey to be as authentic as possible. For instance, I want to be able to share the times that I overslept my alarm or had to skip a workout because my daughter was sick and just wanted to cuddle.

(Yes, there are times that I throw shade to my workouts.  I know, bad girl).

3. Finally, I decided to blog because I have ALWAYS loved writing, sharing, and inspiring.  Always. It’s who I am!

So, yeah, that’s what has caused me to take real estate here on the world wide web. Thanks for stopping by and I would love for you to embark on this journey with me! Please note…this video was my first and is very shaky. Look for “The Sweatpants Diva,” on Youtube for more great videos on workouts and meal planning.

Hello, World…I’ve been robbed!

Hi All,

I am so excited about my new blog, but first I would like to acknowledge that my daughter turned 11 years old yesterday! Wow; the years are flying by quickly.  A few months ago, as I was preparing to plan ahead for her ELABORATE birthday party, it occurred to me that as she was transitioning from elementary school to junior high, from school uniforms to being allowed to wear clothes that reflect her own personality, that perhaps I should give her the option of a wardrobe makeover in lieu of a party. Initially, in my mind, either route would be a win-win. It was not until later that I realized I was secretly hoping for the latter.

I think that there should be something written in that secret “How to Properly Raise a Child,” manual that most of us seem to know nothing about, that states that the entire “party planning high,” that most moms receive when planning their child’s birthday parties, would be ripped from your hands around the age of 10 and placed on pause until the “Sweet 16.” I mean, how could she do this to me? I can recall every last birthday party to date with some of the best being:

Age 4: Disney World…need I say more.

Age 5: A Carnival. Yes, with games, pony rides, face painting, popcorn, snow cones and all!

Age 6: A Luau, with water slides and themed food.

Age 8: Rented out a spa and the girls had a full blown SPA party.

Age 9: Rented out Zeno’s Pizza and the kids all had the opportunity to make their own pizzas.

Age 10: The best SLEEPOVER ever! 9 girls, a fashion and talent show, as well as everything else that girls love to do!

See what I mean! We’ve made so many wonderful memories throughout the years and will continue to do so. As it gets closer to school time, I’ll try to plug in a few things from our shopping trip. We really had a great time. I allowed her to combine the total allowance that I would normally spend on her party with the amount that I had set aside for school clothes. It was a pleasure to see the items that she chose, but I’ll go into more detail about that in a later post. In the meantime, parents, moms in particular, enjoy all of the planning that goes into celebrating their special days, because one day…you too may be robbed!
